Our Carbon Footprint: a Step Forward in Sustainability
At Okin, and within our internal committee called “Zuhaitza”, we are firmly committed to sustainability. That is why we measure our carbon footprint every year, following the criteria set by MITECO (Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge).
The latest calculation shows an improvement compared to the previous year in our internal emissions (Scopes 1 and 2):
-
2023: 7,144.16 t CO₂ eq.
-
2024: 6,812.54 t CO₂ eq.
When we relate these figures to the bread we produce, the result is even more encouraging: our internal emissions per ton of bread produced have been reduced by 3.62% compared to 2023.
👉 This improvement has been possible thanks to the industrial investments we have made and the optimization of energy efficiency in our facilities, allowing us to produce in a way that is more respectful of the environment.
At present, we hold the “CALCULO” seal from MITECO, and our next goal is to achieve the “CALCULO + REDUZCO” seal, which recognizes sustained reduction efforts over several years.
We continue working so that every loaf of Okin bread stands for quality, tradition, and respect for the planet.
This project has been funded by the Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, within the 2025 call for grants for energy audits, implementation of renewable energies, circularity plans, decarbonization plans, and carbon footprint calculation.

Do you need frozen bread for your business? We can help!
At OKIN, we use a controlled temperature freezing system that fully respects the product, without using additives or preservatives. This process ensures that our breads keep their original freshness, flavor, and texture, allowing you to enjoy bread that tastes as if it were freshly baked once defrosted.
